GeoComply alternatives.
Alternatives to GeoComply differ in whether the user has to install something, whether precise location goes to the vendor, and whether the result can be checked without trusting the vendor.
Where alternatives differ
| GeoComply | Octet | |
|---|---|---|
| Install | GeoComply Core lists SDKs for desktop, mobile apps and web browsers. | An SDK inside your app, with nothing else for the user to install. LFA is a separate authenticator app. Octet Browser needs no install and gives a country verdict only. |
| What leaves the device | Precise device location signals go to GeoComply for evaluation. | A signed verdict. Coordinates stay on the device. |
| How you check a result | GeoComply returns the decision. It does not publish a way for a third party to check one independently. | Anyone can verify the proof offline with open-source octet-verify. |
The cost of getting a user through
Desktop computers rarely have GPS, so a desktop location check usually depends on the Wi-Fi networks the machine can see. When those change, the check can fail, whichever vendor runs it. See Wi-Fi triangulation for why.
Players feel this. GeoComply’s consumer app on iPhone, GeoGuard Location Validator, is rated 2.8 out of 5 from about 2,600 ratings on the U.S. App Store.
Octet runs passively inside your app. There is nothing for the user to install, enable or troubleshoot beyond the location permission the app already asks for. Country checks in the browser need no permission and show no prompt.
Cost
The cost difference lies in adoption, not in a per-check price. A check that needs no client install, no troubleshooting by the user and no call to the vendor to verify carries fewer of those costs. Octet’s own pricing is published at pricing.
Nothing here claims Octet is more accurate than GeoComply. No vendor’s accuracy is externally audited, Octet’s included. The difference is whether a result can be checked by someone who does not trust the vendor. And an Octet verdict answers for a device, not a person.
