Octet vs Radar

Last reviewed 20 October 2026

Radar is a location platform whose fraud product returns a pass or fail with flags in a token signed by Radar’s service and checked with a key Radar issues; Octet returns a verdict signed by a key in the phone’s own secure hardware, which anyone can check offline without trusting Octet.

What is the difference between Octet and Radar?

Both return a signed result. The difference is who signs it: Radar’s service, or the phone’s own secure hardware. That decides who can check the result, and whether they have to trust the vendor to do it.

Why the signer matters

A token signed by a vendor’s service proves the vendor said it. A proof signed by the device’s secure hardware, with Apple’s or Google’s attestation behind the key, shows it came from a genuine device running the app, and the vendor cannot produce one on its own. For an auditor or counterparty who does not trust either of you, only the second can be checked independently. See offline verification.

What this does not establish

This compares what each product returns, not how well either works. Neither company publishes externally audited accuracy. An Octet verdict answers for a device, not a person.
